Music

ORIGINS

The real origin of music remains unknown, considering that many years ago human beings did not use any musical instrument, but the human voice that was a necessity for them to communicate with each other.

It is known that during the Middle Ages the musical notation system was used for the first time, a graphic writing method that represents a musical piece, in which it enables a musician to interpret the melody created by a composer.

This system of notation evolves with the Gregorian chant that was used in the rite of the Roman church and on the other hand, in the Renaissance what is known today as musical notation was defined in order to be able to transform the language of the music.

In fact, the origin of written music dates back to around the 6th century of the Christian era. However, these symbols were very limited and did not allow adequate coverage of all musical extensions and harmonic complexity. For this reason, in the period between 992 and 1050, Guido d’Arezzo created the first defined “diastematic” musical writing system, which consisted of transcribing symbols that represented writing. Thus, for the first time in history, all the heights of the musical notes could be indicated.

Guido called that system "tetragram" since the musical notes were developed in a network of four parallel lines. This system was the forerunner of the modern stave and musical notes that we use today.

The concept of music has many meanings, but the one that comes closest to its meaning is that of "the art of combining sounds in a temporal succession". It is one of the arts most valued by society and is the one that has the most presence in the development of our daily life.

We know music as a universal language, in fact, according to Ian Cross, professor of Music and Science and researcher at the University of Cambridge, indicates that from babies we obtain musical perception long before verbal language, developing skills at a higher level so its safe to say with complete certainty that music is a very important part of our lives, it keeps us connected, it balances us, it makes us happy, and it improves our cognitive abilities.
